At Sundial we use 2 forms of acupuncture to help with a wide variety of aches and pains to keep you at your best, 5 Element acupuncture done by acupuncturists and dry needling done by chiropractors. When you insert needles into acupuncture points, it can help stimulate nerves, muscles, and tissue in your body. This stimulation then encourages the body to release certain beneficial chemicals, such as endorphins and serotonin. Endorphins are the body's natural form of painkillers and your brain releases these chemicals at times of pain and stress. Serotonin is a chemical that can affect your mood, emotions and behaviour. It can also provide pain relief. There is increasing scientific evidence to show that needling is effective for headaches, arthritis and a leading research body has published findings [here] concluding that "dry-needling appears to be a useful adjunct to other therapies for chronic low-back pain".
Acupuncture Consultation and Treatment Session with Liz Pinder-AyresWhat is involved? The initial 2 hour consultation and acupuncture treatment session will give patients an opportunity to discuss their general health, lifestyle, emotional well-being, and any other relevant information. It is important that I understand as much as possible about each patient before I start the course of treatment. I will then undertake a short examination of acupuncture pulses on the wrists and take a blood pressure reading. Treatment will be part of this first session and I will begin by re-connecting all energy systems to eliminate any stuck or toxic energy in the body followed by treatment planned specifically to meet a patient’s individual needs. Treatment comprises of the insertion of very fine disposable stainless steel needles and/or the application of heat through moxibustion, the burning of a herb called artemesia on specific points. Subsequent treatments: These last for 45 minutes and each patient will be seen weekly for about 4-6 weeks. Treatments may then vary to every other week or every 3 weeks, monthly and eventually seasonally. Each person will respond differently to treatment and long standing problems may take longer to heal than recent ones. All treatment conforms to the British Acupuncture Council’s Code of Ethics and Code of Safe Practice. Strict confidentiality and hygiene rules apply. Patients are advised not to drink alcohol 12 hours either side of all treatment sessions. |
